Roofing Valleys w/Asphalt Shingles
Key Points / Overview:
-Valleys get lots rain and snow/ice.
-Valleys must be applied / roofed correctly
(take your time).
-Valleys get filled with debris/leaves (may
get backed up).
-3 methods to installing valleys: Open,
Woven, & Closed cut.
-Woven valleys are applied w/3-tab shingles
only.
-Never nail shingles w/in 6"of the valley.
-Always run a strip of roofing felt down the
valley.
-Closed cut valley extend shingle 12" past
valley.
-Closed cut always weave bottom course
shingles.
-Never nail w/in 6" valley.
-Closed cut California valleys used on 41/2
/12 higher.
-Never nail valley flashing instead clip it
at the end.
